Essential oils play an important role in poultry nutrition.
They carry a variety of benefits that assist in supporting a successful rearing cycle.
“Take oregano as an example: it contains many compounds, including carvacrol and thymol, both of which are antioxidants as well as anti-inflammatory.” Farmers Weekly
Tissue damage from accumulation of free-radicals in poultry physiology can be turned around by the presence of antioxidants in poultry diet. Essential oils, much like Oregano for example have been know to combat the damaging effects of antioxidants.
Essential oils are also found to be antimicrobial and useful agents for fighting bacterial infection also. They are often used as a non-pharmaceutical alternative to antibiotics.
